Many children have their appendix removed even before turning the age of fourteen. And the risk starts to peak as they age. Majority of children who get an abdominal surgery is because of appendicitis. Appendicitis is actually appendix inflammation and as a result, a fingerlike tube grows on the lower right part of large intestine.
The Appendix is located at the closed end of the larger intestine, known as the cecum, and measures up to many inches. Although, doctors say that the appendix isn't of much help to the body, but appendix's inner wall releases antibodies, which are produced by the lymphatic tissues.
Appendicitis can be detected by the onset of pain in the middle portion of the abdomen, the portion above the belly button. After a few hours the area will swell and there will be intense pain when touching the abdomen's right side. The patient will begin to vomit and will have nausea. There will low fever and there will be problems will gas and stool passage. Some people, after the onset of these symptoms, will take laxatives or enemas mistaking appendicitis for constipation. But this is extremely dangerous, as these medicines will in turn increase the risk of the appendix bursting. So it is recommended to consult the doctor before going for any kind of medication, even any pain relievers. Besides increasing the risk, they even mask the symptoms and makes diagnosis even more hard.
If the child's symptoms are very much similar to that of the appendicitis' symptoms, he should be immediately taken to the doctor for further diagnosis. The doctor will first study the child's digestive illnesses' history. He should also be divulged information about the symptoms, timing, bowel movements and its frequency. The stool should also be checked for mucus or blood. Children, who can communicate, can be asked to point out the location of pain in the abdomen. Toddlers who haven't started talking or who hesitate to do talk will raise their knees close to the chest, hips will be flexed and the abdomen becomes tender.
Although, the actual cause of this abnormal growth of the appendix is not known, but it can result because of some kind of obstruction or infection in the intestines. The obstruction can be created due to thick mucus build-up inside the appendix. Some part of the stool can also enter inside. There will be mucus formation and the stool will harden within resulting in the swelling up of the appendix. If it is an infection, it should be treated immediately, as it can burst and there is a danger of the infection spreading to other parts of the body via bloodstream. That is the reason why even blood test is done, so as to determine whether the infection has spread or not.
The urine test is done to check for problems in the urinary tract. The problem is then confirmed with the help of computed tomography or an ultrasound. Sometimes children with pneumonia have the similar symptoms, so to make matters clear even X-ray of the chest is done. Medical attention must be sought within forty eight hours of the start of the abdominal pain. Sometimes, abdomen develops mild inflammation, many weeks before the diagnosis is done.
After the diagnosis is done and appendicitis is determined, appendectomy is performed on the patient. The doctor will immediately order the intake of antibiotics before the surgery is performed. In case of confined appendicitis, it can be treated solely by antibiotics and no surgery is required. This is because the inflammation is very mild and the body itself fights with the infection. But, still as a precautionary measure, such kinds of patients must be kept in observation until their condition becomes stabilized. If the appendix ruptured then appendicle perforation is done. In this procedure, a drain is inserted inside the skin, through the abscess with the help of CT scan or ultrasound which gives the exact location. Some people develop complications later such as wound infection and accumulation of puss inside the appendix.

Children's Health Issues: Abrasions, Cuts and Scratches
Sometimes abrasions, cuts and scratches result in dire consequences if they aren't taken care of at the right time. Children run around the house and drop vases and other glass material, which can result in scratches or cuts. Outdoor activities should be supervised carefully, otherwise abrasions caused by a wall or a rock is unavoidable. There are slight differences among the three and most of the time children get them while playing.
Cuts are caused by sharp objects, which can penetrate into the skin or damage the skin on the surface. Scratches are mild form of cuts. They are also caused by sharp objects such as a piece of glass, thorn or a knife. Even fingernails can cause a scar. Abrasion is caused by friction or rubbing of the skin with a rough surface. Rug burns and board burns are also examples of abrasion, because they are caused by friction.
Also, in all three cases, the wound can bleed. It bleeds when the tiny blood vessels located underneath the skin gets ruptured. Platelets form clot to stop the bleeding and a scab can also form, which should be pulled out as that will interfere with the healing process of the body. If the bleeding isn't stopping, the wound should be covered with a soft cloth. After that the wound should be cleaned using lukewarm water and mild soap.
Antibacterial ointment should be used to clean the wound and it should be covered with a bandage. The antibacterial ointment helps kill germs. The bandage will prevent bacteria from getting within and prevent the wound from getting bothersome. But the bandage should be changed everyday and the wound should be kept dry.
The good thing is that abrasion, cuts and scratches don't require any special attention in most cases. But if the scratch is made by animal claws or abrasion is caused by a rusty metallic surface, a doctor should be approached immediately, because the animal could have rabies and the rust can cause septic. Depending on the situation, the doctor would prescribe antibiotics, lotion or even shots. It is also a good idea that parents make sure that their kid is given tetanus shot on a regular basis.
Sometimes, the wound won't be caused in dangerous circumstances, but because of negligence, the wound will get infected by bacteria. If it the wound is infected, it will show symptoms such as redness, swollen skin, and production of puss which can be of the color yellow or either green.
Cuts can sometimes be too deep and even long. In such cases, stitches should be certainly opted for. It is a very simple procedure. The area of the wound is made numb using some kind of anesthesia. It can either be injected or simply applied directly. Then the doctor will sew the cut edges together using certain needle and thread. If the cut isn't big enough, the cut is sealed using a special kind of glue, instead of the stitches. The glue will hold the edges together so that the skin underneath will heal and over a period of time, the glue will dissolve.
Kids need to check with the doctor every week, so that the doctor will be able to analyze the improvement. And when the wound is completely healed, the stitches are cut open using scissors and then the threads are pulled off gently. In majority of the cases, the wound doesn't leave behind a scar. This totally depends on the method and effectiveness of the treatment.

Abdominal Pain in Children
Tummy aches are one of the most frequently complained about problems in children. There are many causes attributed with it, and it is a challenge for the parent or the physician to find out the exact problem. Sometimes the pain requires immediate attention and can also be a case of emergency.
The causes can be related to food, infections, poisoning, insect bites, etc.
Bacteria and viruses are responsible in case of abdominal pain due to infections.
Gastroenteritis and stomach flu are some of the examples of infections that can cause stomach aches. Gastroenteritis is the inflammation and irritation of stomach and the gastrointestinal passage. Extra care must be taken by travelers, as the food and drinks can be contaminated at new locations and can lead to travelers getting diarrhea.
Stomach pain due to viral infections ward off quickly, but bacterial infections demand the intake of antibiotics. In both the cases, some children recover very fast by vomiting and excreting. In case of diarrhea, excess drinking fluids should be given to the kid to avoid dehydration.
Food related stomach aches can be caused because of food poisoning, gas production, excess food ingestion and food allergies. Problems because of food poisoning are temporary and can cause bloating. Symptoms of food poisoning are vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and nausea. Usually these symptoms surface within two days of consumption of contaminated food. Depending on the severity chill, fever, bloody stools, or damage to the nervous system can follow. In case of a group of people who consumed the contaminated food, this situation is known as an outbreak.
Over two hundred diseases are known to be transmitted via food. Food can be poisoned because of toxic agents or infective agents. Infective agents are parasites, bacteria, and viruses. Toxic agents are uncooked food, exotic foods, and poisonous mushrooms. Food can get contaminated because of handling by unclean workers at the local restaurant, too. Parents should check out the cleanliness and should visit a trusted restaurant.
Particular foods can cause the irritation, such as diary products can cause lactose intolerance. If this is the case, the child is allergic to certain food or drinks and swallowing even a small amount can cause vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, cramping, and skin rash. Since these items are harmless otherwise, such kind of allergic reactions are known as hypersensitivity reaction. Sometimes the symptoms can be life threatening and are known as anaphylactic shock or anaphylaxis.
Poisoning can also be due to overdose of medicines and even due to eating non-food stuffs. Insect bites such as black widow spider bite can also lead to pain in the abdomen. It can be accompanied with muscle cramps, weakness, nausea, tremor, vomiting and in severe case it can cause dizziness, faintness, respiratory problems, and chest pain. Also, the heart rate and blood pressure increases.
In very rare cases, abdominal pain can be due to appendicitis. This is a result of blockage and inflammation of tissues. Young kids have a higher rate if complications are considered and should be immediately rushed to the hospital. The pain starts slowly in the abdomen, specifically near the belly button. The pain shifts slowly to the right side of the lower abdomen within a time period of over twenty four hours. Clear symptoms are abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, fever and loss of appetite. Diabetes can also be a reason of abdominal pain. Small children usually curl up, cry and express pain through facial expression. Some kids will be reluctant to talk, but the parent should try to get clear explanation of the problem. Along with close monitoring of the symptoms, studying the location of pain, pain duration, nature of vomiting, and urinary problems will help. After that a pediatric should be consulted who can further refer to a gastroenterologist. Until help is reached, the child should be made to relax.
Often, lying with face in downward direction can relieve pain due to gas.
Often, lying with face in downward direction can relieve pain due to gas.
In case of vomiting and diarrhea, fluids should be given constantly. Solid food should only be given when the child is comfortable about eating it.

Toddler Seat: Suitable from 3 months to 50 pounds
Although it is at the more expensive end of the price range, Uppababy Vista Strollers worth the money if you can afford it. Uppababy Vista Stroller Reviews are normally positive in nature due to the quality of the product.
One of the best features of this stroller is its ease of folding. When you have to get the stroller in your car and it is pouring rain, this is a real blessing and the seat does not have to be removed. I also like the fact that it comes with a bassinet for newborn babies.
The seat/bassinet height is at a nice height to make it comfortable when working with your child.
This stroller has loads of storage space and it will expand with your family so it is good if your baby has an older brother or sister. The optional rumble board permits the older sibling to stand on it if their legs become tired on longer walks. This is very convenient. In sunny climates, a parasol can be attached to protect the standing child from the sun.
I have no doubt that anyone who purchases this stroller will love it and it will last a lifetime.

The Different Types Of Baby Stroller Available
If you are buying your first baby stroller then you are probably aware that there are many different types of stroller on the market today. It can be very confusing trying to figure out what is the best one for you and your baby. I have made up a list of the different types of baby stroller available and what they are for.
They are light weight and easily folded and unfolded which makes them ideal for traveling. They do not take up too much space when folded. The amount of features available on these strollers varies quite a bit and the price will vary accordingly.
This type of stroller is ideal for parents who live in the city as they are compact and maneuverable. The small wheels make them easy to steer but not so good over rougher terrain.
The front wheel can be fixed or slightly movable. The fixed front wheel is better for jogging but not so good when trying to maneuver around obstacles.
These strollers normally have a really good hood to protect your baby from the sun or the rain while you are running.
Some of the stroller are equipped with shock absorbers and mud guards over the wheels so you need to do a little bit of research and figure out what type of terrain you will be running on.
Runners have to work harder when pushing a stroller and many find this improves their stamina.
This type of stroller is ideal for families with two babies or with a baby and another child.
The baby seat can be easily removed from the stroller frame. The seat is also approved as a car seat and is easily attached to the car.
This means that you do not have to remove your baby from the seat when transferring from the car to the stroller or from the stroller to the car.
These strollers vary considerably in price.
However there is a down side. These strollers are normally heavier than normal strollers and they are very expensive.
They can have one or two seats and most can be easily converted to a travel system.
Umbrella Stroller
The umbrella stroller is a lightweight, affordable, folding stroller. The handles are usually in the shape of an upside down “J” (resembling the handle of an umbrella). They are light weight and easily folded and unfolded which makes them ideal for traveling. They do not take up too much space when folded. The amount of features available on these strollers varies quite a bit and the price will vary accordingly.

Jogging Stroller
Jogging strollers are designed so that the parent can exercise while bringing their baby along for the run. They have an unusual shape and normally have two large wheels at the back and one larger or similar size wheel at the front. The front wheel can be fixed or slightly movable. The fixed front wheel is better for jogging but not so good when trying to maneuver around obstacles.

Tandem strollers are double strollers that have the seats in line (one behind the other). Some manufacturers have the seats so that one seat obscures the view of the other and others have the seats at different heights so that the baby at the rear still has a good view.Travel System
A transport system is designed to be a complete system for carrying your baby in a car or in a stroller. The baby seat can be easily removed from the stroller frame. The seat is also approved as a car seat and is easily attached to the car.

Phil&Teds Vibe Stroller Review
Phil&Teds Vibe 2012
Phil&Teds is a New Zealand Based company established in 1994. The company manufactures baby strollers, travel systems, car seats and feeding systems and sell them world wide. They are noted for their inline strollers which are sold in over 40 countries.Introduction
Phil and Ted Vibe stroller is a very stylish baby stroller that can be easily adapted to an inline double stroller. It has three wheels with air-filled tires. There is an optional toddler seat and the stroller can accommodate newborn babies. Both the toddler seat and the main seat come with padded seat inserts for extra comfort.Features
- Dimensions: 25.5″ wide. Folded (wheels off) 30″ x 22″ x 8.5″
- Weight: 26 lbs
- From ages: newborn to 6 years old
- Simple brake operation on handle grip
- Folds with double kit attached
- Full seat recline
- Can be converted to a double
Verve Stroller PROS
- Seat is large and reclines fully
- Air filled tires provide comfortable ride
- Folds into a relatively small space
- Easy to maneuver
- Easily converts to accommodate a car seat
- Optional bassinet
Verve Stroller CONS
- The toddler seat is quite small
- Storage area is difficult to access when in double mode
- Seat footrest is not adjustable
Seat
The phil & teds Vibe main seat is large and well padded. It can recline fully which makes it suitable for newborn babies. The bumper bar is easily removed and has a padded, zipped, removable cover.
The footrest is made from plastic and is not adjustable.
The optional toddler seat has limited recline movement.
Hood / Canopy
The hood is large and comes with a zip on the front for attaching different kinds of cover for the stroller. The hood is unusual in that it attaches to the frame and not to the seat. This actually helps as you can now adjust the height of the hood for taller children.Handle
The handle is padded and rounded and can be adjusted to three different positions. This is ample for any size of person and you will not be banging your feet of the stroller, even if the double kit is fitted. The brake button on the Phil and Ted Vibe is located in the center of the handle and this can be a problem when using one hand to push the stroller as you can inadvertently hit the brake button and lock the wheels.
Brakes
The brakes are operated in the same way as the Verve Stroller. There is a red button on the center of the handle bar. Pressing this button, applies the brakes. To release the brakes, you have to press a larger black button located in front of the red button.Folding
When folding the Phil & Teds Vibe 2012 stroller, there are some things you MUST do first.- The handlebar must be in the most upright position (perpendicular to the ground).
- Nothing can be below the rear axle level (ie. lift the basket up above this)
- The front single wheel should have the side with the attachment bar on the outside.
- Put handle bar in the upright position.
- Undo the side locking clips. Lift the red lever on the side to start the fold. Fold so that the vibe stroller front wheel and handle come together.
- As the stroller folds, ensure the basket is above rear axle and the front wheel has the attachment bar on the outside.
- When the pram is fully folded you can fold the side lock clips back in place.
Toddler Seat
The toddler seat is small. I think this is the smallest Phil&Teds seat yet.In toddler/toddler mode the older child sits in the upright main seat while the younger child rides in the double kit seat at the back. The double kit seat is attached by linking the latches on the seat onto the black adaptors on the back of the rear axle as well as having the arms of the toddler seat go under the black connectors and then you secure with the black buttons on either side. This is a little tricky and does require two hands to line up correctly. The double kit seat in the rear position will take a child up to 15kg or 33lbs.
The maximum total loading of the pram is 40kg
In toddler/newborn mode the main seat is fully reclined for the baby to lie flat and the double kit seat is attached up the front of the stroller for the older child. The double kit seat is attached with small latches which hook into the frame in place of the bumper bar. The double kit seat can attach to either of two positions on the front which gives the child below a bit more room if needed. The double kit seat in this position will take a child up to 25kg or 55lbs.
Summary
Phil and Teds Vibe stroller is very well designed. It looks good and it works as you would expect for a quality stroller. With the optional double kit, this stroller converts into a stylish inline Vibe stroller that is extremely functional and easy to maneuver. However when in double mode, the toddler seat is very small. One handed pushing can be difficult at times due to the position of the brake button. Although the fold is compact, it is complicated and must be done methodically for it to lock in position.
One of the big advantages of the Phil & Teds Vibe stroller is that it is easy to convert into a travel system. It will accommodate a car seat for transfer between stroller and car.
Phil&Teds Verve Stroller Review

Verve Stroller PROS
- Easy to push – very maneuverable
- Very easy to fold without dis-assembly (even in double mode)
- Great hood/sun shade
- Can use a travel system and double kit at the same time
- Very adjustable and easy to use harness
- Great hand break on hand grip
- Large, well padded seats
Verve Stroller CONS
- Front wheels are not easily detachable
- Basket space is very limited in double mode
- Double kit hood has to be removed before folding
- If larger children are in the double kit seat, they can touch the front wheels through the cargo area fabric.
Seat
The verve seat is very large for a stroller and comes with a padded insert which makes it very comfortable for your baby. There is a padded, removable bumper bar. This has a removable, zip-off cover for easy cleaning.
The seat has a very adjustable recline system. It can be reclined with one hand by adjusting a strap but it will take two hands to move upright again. However this is a very simple system and works great.
Weight limit for the seat is 44 lbs
In single mode, the frame can accommodate a car seat adapter (sold separately) thus making it into a transport system. A double kit is available (sold seperatly for approx $120).
Hood/Canopy
The hood is very adjustable and will protect your child from just about any angle. The double kit hood is smaller but more than adequate. However this must be removed before folding.
Wheels
The rear wheels have mud guards. These actually prevent little fingers form children in the double kit from rubbing against the wheels. The rear wheels have pneumatic tires. The front wheels are solid but have suspension. The rear wheels are easily removed but you will need a screwdriver to remove the front wheels. The front wheels can be locked in place or allowed to castor freely.
Brakes
The Verve stroller brakes are hand operated and the system works extremely well. The brake is applied by pressing a small, red button on the hand grip and released by pressing a larger, black button.Double Kit
The double kit seat is quite large and also comes with a padded insert. It has a 3 position recline operated by a single lever – this is very handy. The recline allows toddlers to sleep in a comfortable position when in double mode. One down side is that older children (2 years and older) are strong enough to stretch the cargo area fabric with their feet, making it possible for them to press against the front wheels if they get boisterous.
Folding
In single mode, release the side clamps just below the bumper bar center line and push down on the red hook on the left side. The stroller frame folds in half and locks automatically. It is possible to break the clamp handles during transport if they are not folded back in again. In double mode, the phil and teds double stroller kit hood needs to be removed before folding. It is then a simple process to detach the double kit to enable it to slide forward, under the main seat. Folding then proceeds as for single mode.
Summary
Phil and Teds Verve stroller is a high quality, versatile stroller and is one of Phil and Teds double stroller greats. The Phil Teds Verve is easy to use and looks great. If you read any other Phil and teds reviews, you will see the same things (good and bad). This stroller is one of the best double stroller you can get today.

It has good suspension and wheels with mud guards. But this 2012 promenade stroller is lacking in some areas.Phil & Teds Promenade stroller requires two hands to fold, but the fold is not difficult. It will probably not fit in smaller cars but if you have a large trunk then this is not a problem.
Phil and Teds Promenade stroller is not cheap, but you would not expect a stroller of this caliber to be cheap. Overall, this stroller is well designed and has quality construction with a high specification and a good range of accessories. If you have the money, the Promenade stroller is good value and will last a lifetime for one or two children.
Exercise Program Using Your Baby Stroller
You have your new baby and decided to buy a baby stroller. You find yourself walking more and you want to get back into shape again. But your little baby has to remain close. How do you get fit again and have an exercise routine that accommodates your baby too?
Well now you can. You can take your baby along for the ride in the stroller and set up an exercise routine that will help you lose weight and quickly get back into shape again.
Try to exercise at least three times per week if possible.
Advise your doctor that you intend to start exercising just to ensure that everything is OK. If in doubt, have your doctor perform a medical before undertaking any exercise program.
Do not expect instant results. But you should be in pretty good shape after 12 weeks. If you have a heart monitor, this can be really helpful in maintaining your heart rate at the optimal level but it is not essential for these exercises.

Equipment
The aim of these exercises is to incorporate your baby stroller as part of your exercise equipment. However, feel free to bring along any other exercise equipment that you like using e.g. weights, stretching bands, skipping ropes etc.Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)
This exercise program is intended to take 20 minutes but as you get fitter, you can extend this time period. Regardless of how long the exercise is, it is important to get your heart rate up. You can easily find your Target Heart Rate (THR) with this very simple method. Subtract your age from 226 (220 for men) to calculate your Maximum Heart Rate (MHR).Warm up
50 – 60% of maximum heart rate: The easiest zone and probably the best zone for people just starting a fitness program. It can also be used as a warm up for serious walkers. This zone has been shown to help decrease body fat, blood pressure and cholesterol. It also decreases the risk of degenerative diseases and has a low risk of injury. 85% of calories burned in this zone are fats.Fat Burning
60 – 70% of maximum heart rate: This zone provides the same benefits as the warm up, but is more intense and burns more total calories. 85% of calories burned in this zone are fats. The 20 Minute Exercise Program
Warm Up (5 min)
5 minute walk with your baby in the stroller to loosen the muscles.Power Walk (2 min)
Abdominals (2 min)
- Stand straight
- Raise both arms high above your head and join your hands together
- Bend forward from the waist (approx 90 °) keeping back straight
- Keep your tummy muscles nice and tight
- Slowly stand up straight again and keep arms above your head
- Repeat to the right side (as far as possible)
- Repeat to the left side (as far as possible)
- Repeat all of the above until approximately two minutes has elapsed
Stroller Squat (1 min)
- Start with your feet slightly apart
- Hold the stroller close to your body
- Bend your knees and slowly lower yourself to the squat position
- Push the stroller forward at the same time
- Pull the stroller back in towards your body
- Keep your thighs parallel to the ground
- Stand up straight again
- Keep repeating for one minute
Power Walk (2 min)
Stroller Lunge (1 min)

- Repeat for the other leg
- Repeat 8 times
- Repeat for the other leg
- Repeat 4 times
- Repeat for the other leg
Curb Step-Ups (3 min)
- Find a curb that is not on a public highway
- Use the curb like a “stair master” and step up and down while alternating legs on each step
(Optional) Bench Step-Ups (3 min)
When you get good at curb step-ups, you may want to make the exercise harder and this is a good way to increase the effort required.- Find an unused park bench
- Step up and down on the seat portion in the same manner you used for the curb
Pushups (2 min)
- Find an unused park bench
- Stand behind the bench
- Take a step back
- Lean onto the bench and hold it with both hands
- Do 10 pushups (more as your fitness level increases)
Power Walk (2 min)
Cool down (5 min)
This will take about 5 minutes. Spend approximately 20 seconds stretching each muscle. This will prevent your muscles from stiffening up and causing you pain later.JOGGING STROLLER SAFETY
Ready to run? Before you start exercising with your stroller, have a quick read of these safety tips courtesy of the American Running Association:- Never take your hands off the stroller. The jogging stroller is designed to roll with as little resistance as possible, making it very easy for it to get away from you.
- Don’t forget to consider your baby’s exposure to the elements. Use sunscreen and hats to block the sun (even in non-summer months). Use extra clothes in cold and damp weather. Remember, your baby isn’t generating any extra body heat and he has the wind created by your speed to deal with.
- Don’t let your guard down on safety. Although the jogging stroller provides a convenient way for you to get out the door and run, the advantages don’t come without risks to your infant. Stay vigilant and your exercise can be satisfying and safe for both you and your new companion.
- Stay focused: Leave your iPod and dog at home. Make this time simply about you and your baby.
- Choose a good time — do not run at night when visibility is poor or when your baby is irritable and will distract you.
Summary
This whole routine takes 20 minutes (excluding warm up and cool down). Anyone can fit 20 minutes into their schedule and you will probably want to make this longer as you get better at it.Do not expect instant results. But you should be in pretty good shape after 12 weeks. If you have a heart monitor, this can be really helpful in maintaining your heart rate at the optimal level but it is not essential for these exercises.

Bugaboo Cameleon Reviews
Folding
Certainly the Cameleon folds into a compact size but it does have a major disadvantage here. It is not a one-hand operation and you also have to remove the seat. This is not a complicated process but it does slow you down when you are in a rush.Bassinet
The bassinet comes with a carry handle (removable). This is very handy if you are leaving the stroller in a hallway and want to bring the bassinet to another location. The sunshade in the bassinet is outstanding and it will really protect your baby from the sun. It allows your newborn baby to lay totally flat and facing towards you. A zippered cover will protect the babies lower body and a canopy protects the head.
Seat
The seat is removed by pressing a large, square button on each side of the stroller. It is very easy to lift the seat and turn it 180°. It attaches securely every time with an audible “Clunk”The seat has a 3-position recline. Unlike other strollers, this does not recline the back support, it reclines the whole seat and when fully reclined, your child will have no problem sleeping.
Wheels
The wheels are foam filled to protect against punctures. The suspension is adjustable and has four settings. This is more than adequate for all but the roughest ground. The swivel wheels can be locked but in the unlocked position they make the Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller very maneuverable.Handlebar
The handlebar is reversible for use in the city or over rough terrain. Reversing the handlebar allows you to push the stroller in reverse. This is a handy feature to use when getting your child to face away from you. It is faster than removing the seat and turning it.When in the reverse mode, the larger tires are at the front and this is great for soft ground or loose surfaces but it does make steering a little more difficult as the swivel wheels are now at the rear.
The parking brake is positioned on the handlebar and is easy to reach. Releasing the parking brake causes the brake handle to snap back quite fast so you need to be careful not to get your fingers hit by it.
The handlebar on the Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller is height adjustable and can extend by 8 inches. It is not a push button system and requires you to adjust friction knobs on either side of the handlebar.

Bugaboo Cameleon Assembly
If you decide to buy Bugaboo Cameleon, it will come in two boxes.Parts Come In Two Boxes:
Box 1
- 2 Big wheels
- 2 small wheels
- Frame handle
- Seat frame
- Chassis
- Fabric for basket
- Fabric for seat
- Fabric for bassinet
- Bassinet mattress
Box 2
- Canopy
- Apron for the bassinet
- Seat cover
Assembly
Assemble the frame by attaching the wheels to the chassis. The big wheels go on the rear and the small wheels attach at the front. They slide in and you will hear them click and lock into position. When the small wheels are attached you will see a knob appear at the other side of the opening where they slide in.
Attach the basket. Make sure the logo is facing the rear. The velcro side straps are at the front and these should be wrapped around the chassis. There are four attachment points. Two in the front and two that attach to the center cross bar.
To set up the bassinet:
- First, make sure you know which side of the frame is the head side and which side is the foot side. The head side has smooth rubber on the frame and the foot side has rough rubber on the frame. You will notice a silver pin on the outside of the frame on the foot side.
- To find the head side and foot side on the bassinet fabric, take note of where the zipper is located. This is the foot side and where the apron will connect. make sure that the plastic stiffeners are still inside their slots at the head and the foot. These may have fallen out and may be loose in the box that the stroller arrived in.
- Use the velcro straps to attach the bassinet fabric to the frame ensuring that the head of the fabric is attached to the head of the frame. Do not forget to attach the two velcro straps at the bottom of the frame where the frame will attach to the chassis.
- The bassinet can now be attached to the chassis.
- Place the mattress on the bottom of the bassinet.
- Zip the apron into place.
- Click the handle bar into place across the center.
- Attach the canopy making sure that the bugaboo logo is at the outside. The canopy clicks into attachment points on each side at the center.
To Set up the seat:
- Remove all of the fabric from the bassinet. This can be done while the frame is still attached to the chassis.
- Find the head of the seat fabric.
- Slide the pocket opening over the smooth end of the frame and attach the two velcro straps at the bottom (foot) end.
- The side straps are harder to attach and you may need help. These attach to the silver pins on the frame. If necessary, put the frame on its side and push down on the frame to bend it a little to allow the hole on the strap to line up with the silver pin.
- Attach the extra padding by lifting up the existing seat padding and then sliding the extra padding over the seat as before. Feed each of the safety straps through the holes in the extra padding. Fold the existing seat base back into position again. Attach the frame handle.

Quinny Buzz Reviews
Maneuverability
This stroller is extremely maneuverable and we found no problems in both steering and pushing. It is an urban stroller and although relatively heavy, it was fairly easy to push. Over longer distances it may be tiring.
Frame
Even without the seat fitted, this frame looks very modern and sleek. The center stem contains the hydraulics that do all of the work when unfolding. The stroller feels solid and well very well built and there is plenty of suspension so that even on rougher terrain, your child would be able to remain asleep.
Seat
The standard seat that is fitted to the frame is a memory foam seat that cradles the younger child beautifully. Around 18 months, the XL seat can be fitted to accommodate a larger child. This takes a little bit of effort to install but once it is done, you probably will not have to do it again.
The chair reclines in three positions when forward facing and in two positions when facing backwards by pressing the two gray buttons on either side of the seat.
Moving the chair from forward to rear facing is equally hassle free. By pressing the same buttons a little further and lifting up, the seat comes away from the frame. Rotate the chair to the opposing direction, slide the posts into their sockets and wait for a ‘click’. This is really simple.

The stroller works well as part of the Quinny Travel System. Using the Maxi Cosi seat, the stroller adapts easily into the Quinny Buzz Travel System to make transporting between vehicles much easier.
Folding
The Buzz 4 can fold down with the seat attached, but Quinny advise that it is removed before folding. There is definitely a ‘Knack’ needed to depress both buttons on either side of the frame, at the same time as applying some downward pressure on the handle. This becomes easier in time but initially it is a little fiddly. The collapsed frame is also quite heavy.
Opening is one of the best features of this stroller. Release the catch, nudge the handle upwards and the full expansion happens automatically. This is a great piece of engineering and a real party piece.

Handlebar
The telescopic handle is really easy to adjust and extends to over 3 feet 3 inches. Just press the small grey button on the underside of the grip. So, regardless of your height, you will find a level that suits you.
Harness
The five point harness involves interlinking the left and right buckles, then inserting these into the clip. This could be a little problematic with a wriggling child. The shoulder and crotch straps are cushioned, so that if your child falls asleep, they don’t chafe the neck or face.
Canopy
The canopy folds flat, and will give sufficient shelter in the sun. There is a window in the hood for an adult to look in on the child.
Bumper bar
The bumper bar is padded and can detach from both or either side, acting as a sort of gate. The knuckle hinge makes the release effortless.
Wheels
With 15 inch pneumatic tires on the back providing the cushioning and 9 inch, lockable, molded wheels on the front allowing 360 degree swivel, the glide on the chair is smooth and will deliver a very comfortable ride.
Shopping space
The Buzz Box shopping bag is quite small, even though it claims to have a 11 lb capacity. It would be more suited as a changing bag. It contains the hand pump for the tires, should they go down while you are out.
To make this pushchair practical around town, it would be necessary to buy the shopping bag to actually carry any shopping home.

Accessories
Standard accessories include:
- Sun canopy
- Rain cover
- Removable soft-touch bumper bar
- Liner seat pad for older child
Conclusion
The Buzz 4 is an extremely well built stroller. It is good looking and ticks all the boxes of desirability. There are enough add-ons to adapt it to suit all tastes.
It is a little overweight and tricky to fold for shorter people. That said, it moves very easily and is happy to be pushed with one hand. The extendable handle is very handy, and the automatic unfold is a really useful function.
The Buzz 3 and the Buzz 4 are basically the same except the Buzz 4 has both front wheels on a ‘fork’ basically like a 4 wheel stroller but better.

The seat is super comfy, easy to clean and has good recline positions in both rear and forward facing. It is now much easier to fold and put the stroller in the car as there is no need to un-clip the seat when it is forward facing (although it was always quick anyway). The stroller is a little bit heavier to lift now.
The rain-cover is excellent. It keeps the whole seat / bassinet dry. The chassis dries off quickly with a towel. The hood is suitable for most days, but on a really sunny day, it can be a problem and the optional parasol is handy.
The wheels are easy to pop off to fit the stroller in smaller trunks. The wheels or tires are pretty much trouble free. As long as you keep them maintained and oiled, the stroller is super smooth with great suspension and is so easy to steer and push, one handed with a coffee up a hill. It is great on walking tracks and can also handle gravel paths, as well as in shopping centers and shops as it is not too bulky.
At cafes / restaurants, it can be used as a highchair. It can pull in close to the table and is at the right height to eat, and doesn’t take up a huge amount of space like other strollers.
The buzz box / bag is very useful as a diaper bag and the optional shopping basket, is really essential for holding larger items.
There are only two major concerns. The first, is that it cannot be converted to a double so if your family expands, you will need to look for another baby stroller. The other con, is that for traveling overseas, it is quite bulky and heavy and does not come with a carry bag which would be useful when traveling on buses or planes.

Stroller Safety Tips
Stroller Safety
Strollers are used by millions of parents around the world and they are a great way of transporting little babies or toddlers from place to place. However, you should be aware that injuries can occur from the use of baby strollers. Injuries such as crushing injuries, finger amputations and injuries to the head have occurred. Strollers can even roll away when brakes fail or are not applied.
Safety Items
Some safety items should be present in every baby stroller.- A safety harness to keep baby secure in the seat.
- A functioning parking brake.
- A tether to prevent the stroller inadvertently rolling away from you.
Checklist
- Always follow the manufacturers instructions.
- Always use the tether – particularly when the parking brake is not engaged.
- When parking the stroller, always park it in such a way that it would never free wheel into a hazard. E.g. river, road, railway etc.
- Keep the stroller within arms reach.
- Ensure that your baby is securely fastened in the seat by the safety harness.
- Keep children far enough away from the stroller during folding and unfolding to prevent their little fingers getting caught up in the hinge mechanisms.
- Return the stroller warranty card so that you may be notified of any recalls.
- Always put your child in a secure place e.g. car seat, before folding and stowing the stroller.
Never
- Never let your child stand up on the stroller seat as they could fall or cause the stroller to topple over.
- Never attach bags to the stroller handle bar as this could cause the stroller to topple over.
- Never leave you baby unattended – especially if they are sleeping in the stroller.
Summary
Stroller safety is not difficult. Just use a little common sense and there should never be any problems. We cannot think of every possible scenario that our stroller and our babies may be involved in but if you use the guidelines and checklist above, you can be pretty sure that you are doing everything within reason to protect your babies and transport them safely.Stroller Safety Regulations and Testing
Mandatory Stroller Regulations (USA)
We all know that baby strollers have to meet strict safety regulations, but who is responsible for deciding if the stroller is safe and what regulations do manufacturers have to follow? In the USA, there are many regulations and tests that stroller manufacturers must follow. These regulations are published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Before any stroller can be sold to the public it must go through rigorous testing to make sure it meets the ASTM standards. Each year the guidelines are updated in the hopes of making strollers safer.
The safety regulations regarding strollers and carriages published by the ASTM and are listed below.
Stroller Testing Conditions
The actual testing facility must meet certain requirements. The testing facility floor must be made of concrete and covered by ⅛ inch thick vinyl flooring.
The testing room must be at a temperature of 73 degrees Fahrenheit.
The stroller must be completely assembled according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and all of the tests must be on the same model (unless the original is damaged). If the original stroller is damaged, a replacement will be used for the remainder of the testing.
General Requirements
There are several basic requirements that a stroller must meet before it goes through testing.First of all there must be no sharp edges or points that could harm a child. Also, all small protective parts such as caps and plugs must be tested to see how easily they can be removed. If they are within a child’s reach and could be removed, this poses a choking hazard.
Stroller Latch Test
The stroller should be set up in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.Apply 45 lb. of force at the place most likely to cause folding.
Gradually apply this force over 5 minutes and hold for 10 minutes.
Repeat this test five times then fold the stroller, unfold it, and do the test once more.
Protective Safety Test
All small, protective parts must be tested to make sure they cannot be removed. This type of test is called the “Torque Test Method.” Place 3 lb. of force over 5 seconds on each part, and turn it clockwise 180 degrees, then release and repeat, turning it in the other direction.Another test is to place 15 lb. of force, and pull the part in the direction in which it would be most likely to break off. Hold for 10 seconds and then release.
The model must also be checked for pinching and scissoring hazards. If the stroller is designed to fold, there must be a latch to prevent it from accidentally folding while in use.
Springs are also tested to see how much space between the coils there can be while in use. If there is more than .120 inches between coils, then they must be covered to avoid pinching.
Stroller Brake Test
Performance Brakes are a required feature for all strollers. When they are engaged, they are not permitted to let the wheels rotate more that 90 degrees during testing. The brakes cannot be located within reach of a child who is sitting in the stroller.
Engage the brakes and place the stroller on a 12 degree incline. The surface is covered with 120 grit sandpaper.
The wheel where the brake is applied should be positioned so that it is higher than the rest.
Gradually apply 40 lb. into the seat’s center and hold for 10 seconds.
Repeat when the wheel with the brake is lower than the other wheels.
Stroller Label Test
The surface of the stroller is also tested for safety. The paint and surface coating must comply with certain safety regulations.Any wood parts of the stroller must be smooth, so there in no chance of splintering.
Warning labels on the stroller can be attached by printing, burning, hot stamp, or paper label. These are also tested to be sure they are permanent.
All labels must be permanent.
For paper labels, they are considered permanent if they can’t be removed with out tools, or if the label comes off in pieces or if it damages the surface of the stroller.
For a warning label that is sewn into the seams, apply force over 5 seconds and hold for 10 seconds.
Static Load Test
The stroller must be able to support a static load* of 100 lb. or 2.5 times the manufacturer’s recommended weight maximum. A carriage is to be able to hold a static load of 50 lb. total. The weight is to be placed in the middle of the stroller. A convertible carriage/stroller should support a static load equal to the manufacturer’s directions for each configuration. For a high capacity stroller the weight is put in the seat that is most likely to fail.
A 6 inch by 6 inch piece of wood that is 3/4 inch thick is gradually applied over 5 seconds and held for 60 seconds.
Next, 50 lb. or 1.25 times the recommended weight is gradually applied to the footrest over 5 seconds and held for 60.
* Static Load – A downward force applied by a dead weight onto the object in question
Stroller Stability Test
The stroller must also be tested for stability. It will be placed on the testing platform and tested for stability when the stroller is empty and full. For a high capacity stroller, the weight is put in the seat that is most likely to cause a test failure.First the stroller is placed on a platform at a 12 degree angle. The seat should be in the most upright position. Place stops under the wheels so they will not roll, but still might tip.
The model is tested to see how easily the model will tip over.
Recline the seat and test again.
To test front stability (simulating a child were climbing up into the stroller) place the model on a flat surface. No weight should be in the seat and the footrest should be at its lowest point. (This is if the footrest is adjustable)
Apply 40 lb. of force downward over 5 seconds and hold for 10 seconds.
Stroller Occupant Retention Test
The waist restraint and crotch strap are measured to make sure they can fit snugly on babies of all sizes.Strollers must have a harness built into the model so that everything is pre-assembled.
Carriages are not required to have restraints if they are only built for infants. If the seat back sits up or if the carriage can be used beyond infancy, then it must have a harness.
While the restraints are being tested, no part of the buckle is permitted to slip or come off. The harness straps that are anchored to the stroller also must not tear or come off.
Carriages or stroller/carriage systems with fully reclining seats, are required to have a protected occupant retention**
There must be walls around all sides. No holes are allowed, but if there are, they must be fully covered.
Strollers with a full recline position must have a non-detachable feature to cover holes in the stroller.
The stroller seat must be fully upright with a weight or small dummy placed in the seat and fastened into the harness.
Apply 45 lb. of force on the dummy’s ankle over 5 seconds and hold for 10 seconds.
Repeat 5 times.
Some strollers have a belly bar or a tray.
These should not allow a hole large enough for a child’s torso to slip through.
** Occupant Retention – The closed space inside a carriage or stroller where the occupant lays.
Stroller Impact Test
The impact test is designed to test the strollers ability to absorb an impact.A 5 lb. weight is attached to the center of the handlebar. The stroller model is then placed on a smooth platform that is angled at 20 degrees. A steel stop is placed at the end of the ramp and should be at least as tall as the stroller’s front wheels.
Release and let the model roll down the incline.
Repeat three times.
Then test the model with the seat in an upright position and a 40 lb. weight in the seat.
Repeat 5 times.
Stroller Harness Test
Restraints are a requirement for all strollers except infant carriages. The restraint must go around the waist and crotch. It is to be designed so that the crotch part must be used whenever the harness is in use.
Secure the stroller so it will not move.
Over a 5 second period, apply a force of 40 lb. to one of the attachments and hold for 10 seconds.
Repeat five times and then do the same with the other attachments.
Summary
All strollers sold in the USA today must pass all of the above tests. Knowing this, we are confident that when we buy a stroller, it is safe and has met some of the most strict safety regulations in the world.
